The Dubai Pavilion designed by Foster & Partners for the Expo 2015 occupies a central area of the Expo site, accessible from the Decumanus. The visitor is first attracted by a canyon-like vestibule entrance, made from 12 meter high walls. The configuration draws inspiration from the urbanistic layout of the ancient desert cities and their narrow streets that provide shelter from the sun. A series of parallel waves, almost 140 meters long, suggest a compact image of space, while at the same time inducing a formal dynamic language that evokes the crests and consistency of sand dunes. To emphasize the uniqueness of this space, the walls reproduce the various shades of colour present in the desert of the United Arab Emirates. Capoferri provided the cladding for the central tower, made from shingles in Tecu Gold; the automated sliding doors to the cinema area with an acoustic insulation of 64dB and the interior doors of the VIP areas, made from bronze, designed by the Architect Lord Norman Foster.
