A special and very delicate intervention is the one that the Administration of Florence’s Palazzo Vecchio, together with the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of the University of Florence, has undertaken to secure the spaces of the Salone del 500 in Palazzo Vecchio.
\nThe goal: the achievement of fire safety standards compatible with the historical and architectural peculiarities of the 16th-century building in Piazza della Signoria.<\/p>\n

Capoferri was called upon to design and build the eight window frames that punctuate the spaces frescoed by Vasari and adorned by the works of Michelangelo and Giambologna in the largest and most prestigious hall in the entire palace.<\/p>\n

There are eight window frames on which Capoferri will work, with wood and metal solutions, fitting into the existing architecture, updating and securing them.
\nTo date, the first intervention involving the replacement of the wooden window frames exposed on Via Dei Gondi has been completed.<\/p>\n

There are five window and door frames in this first intervention, which are large in size, about 420 x 520 cm, were made to design and reproduce the shapes and sections of the existing frames. The special automated opening system, engineered by Capoferri for these frames, was necessary to solve the problem of smoke evacuation in case of fire.
\nTo resist wind stresses in the mullions and transoms of the sashes, curved and linear, 5m stainless steel plates were inserted.<\/p>\n
