Let us consider those with selective glass to improve <strong>energy efficiency<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Since its surface is very large compared to the whole frame, the choice of glass is fundamental. Its ability to maintain the optimum temperature inside the rooms is essential for energy savings. This is also an optimal choice with a view to sustainability.<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to its characteristics that &#8220;select&#8221; solar energy, selective glass is particularly used in the creation of sustainable windows. It allows <strong>heat to only partially penetrate<\/strong> the glass surfaces.<br \/>\nThese solar control glasses are also called <strong>&#8220;four seasons&#8221;<\/strong> and are particularly suitable for apartments, houses, offices, commercial buildings located in a Mediterranean climate area with good exposure to the sun.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Characteristics<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Before analyzing the <strong>characteristics<\/strong> of selective glass, we want to understand what its function is.<br \/>\nIts presence is very useful in environments with a mild or warm climate. Thanks to its technical qualities, it limits the passage of solar radiation, <strong>avoiding overheating<\/strong> of the rooms.<br \/>\nThis does not affect the lighting of the interior spaces, which can benefit from natural light.<\/p>\n<p>Based on the environment for which the glass is intended, it is essential to choose a product that, together with the heat, does not also retain the passage of light.<br \/>\nToday this limit no longer exists thanks to the availability of <strong>extra-white glass<\/strong>. The rooms are regularly illuminated, while the temperature inside them remains optimal.<br \/>\nThere are two conditions at the basis of living comfort and energy efficiency. We can obtain them thanks to the characteristics of selective glass, especially if installed on a <strong>window frame<\/strong> made of <strong>low transmittance material<\/strong>, such as wood, stainless steel or bronze.<\/p>\n<p>Selective glass is a simple glass to which a coating is applied, generally on an external face of the double glazing. This particular process blocks infrared radiation and contains the passage of heat.<br \/>\nBut how to evaluate the characteristics of suitable selective glass?<\/p>\n<p>First of all, not by yourself. Companies specializing in the production of doors and windows choose glass on the basis of several factors that are combined with the climatic, aesthetic, functional and customer needs.<br \/>\nIn fact, glass has a strong aesthetic and functional value on which living comfort depends.<br \/>\nOne of these is the solar factor which indicates how much solar energy passes through the glass. It is called G. The lower it is, the less energy filters from outside to inside. It goes without saying that in selective glass the G-factor is lower than in other glass.<\/p>\n<p>The other factor is light transmission, or how much light passes through the glass from outside to the inside of the home. With a reduced passage of energy, the illumination also decreases. For this reason, the experts only can guide your choice towards extra white glass, which lets in as much light as possible.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Advantages<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The <strong>advantages<\/strong> associated with the use of selective glass are many, first of all ensuring comfort and energy saving inside the home.<\/p>\n<p>We could summarize as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>optimum temperature<\/li>\n<li>energy saving<\/li>\n<li>sustainability<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>However, let us understand better what concrete benefits correspond to these generic advantages.<\/p>\n<p>First of all we are clearly interested in<strong> living comfortably<\/strong>. Therefore maintaining the optimal internal temperature is essential.<br \/>\nSelective glass has not only the ability to stop the entry of heat, but also to retain it in the home. Thanks to this feature it is also called &#8220;four seasons&#8221;.<br \/>\nIf we combine these advantages with the use of an adequate and low transmittance frame, thermal insulation is guaranteed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Energy saving<\/strong> goes hand in hand with this. The cost reduction in the bill is significant, especially in the hot season when otherwise the use of air conditioning would be frequent. We find this in particular in the cases of large panoramic windows well exposed to the sun. The selective glass fully performs its function bringing decisive advantages on consumption costs.<br \/>\nFurthermore, its filtering capacity of the sun&#8217;s rays avoids annoying glare phenomena. This contributes to the exterior aesthetics of the building which does not require curtains and blackouts, but can show off clean and minimal lines, guaranteeing freshness inside.<br \/>\nA selective glass can filter up to 40% of the heat and can even reach 60%. In the latter case, natural lighting is penalized. Therefore it is essential to choose the type of glass according to the climatic and functional needs of the place for which it is intended.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, thermal efficiency makes selective glass a <strong>sustainable<\/strong> choice, thanks to the reduction in the use of air conditioning systems.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Alternatives to selective glass<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>If choosing a selective glass does not seem entirely appropriate, you can consider an alternative.<br \/>\nThe choice must be made taking into consideration some elements:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>climatic area<\/li>\n<li>exposure of the windows<\/li>\n<li>external factors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Based on these factors, you can also opt for a low-emissivity glass.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Low-emissivity<\/strong> glass is designed to improve thermal efficiency and it is made with a coating that helps contain the dispersion of heat from the inside to the outside, generally applied on an internal face of the double glazing.<\/p>\n<p>Whichever option you choose between selective glass and low-emissivity glass , it is always advisable to install the glass on a thermally broken window, capable of enhancing energy efficiency. In this way we can reach very high levels even in particularly difficult climatic conditions as we can see in some projects carried out by <strong>Capoferri<\/strong>.
